Things Needed
5 volt superbright LED bulbs (choose color) (2 per ring made)
1 pkg. 220 ohm resistors .5 watt ( 1 per bulb)
speaker wire
Acrylic rods ( used for opening window blinds) ( you should get 2 angel eyes per rod)
Dremel tool or small engraver
electrical tape
heat gun ( hair dryer will NOT work)
some sort of glass bottle to form rod around when heated
Steps- When you look at the pics remember that you are seeing them installed
1. Remove headlights from car, remove any plastic parts, bulbs, or anything else that can be damaged from heat.
2. Place headlights on a baking sheet in oven at 350* for 7-10 min or until the gray adhesive is pliable. (If headlights are originals the glue will not seperate, you must pry them apart with a small flat head screw driver. You must start at the bottom of the headlights and gently try to pry them apart) Don't get nervous if you chip the glass if it is at the bottom you cannot see it.Put headlights aside for now.
3. Take the acrylic rod and with the heat gun on high, evenly heat the rod until it is flexible. Wrap the rod around the bottle while the rod is still hot. If it is not hot it will just crack. When the rod is wrapped, heat the rod and roll it on a flat surface while the rod is still on the bottle. This will smooth out any imperfections. Let cool thoroughly. As it is cooling make sure you hold on to it.
4. Snip ends so the 2 ends meet. You may have to heat again to make it lay flat. (Use side cutters or wire snips)
5. Using dremel or engraver put very small cuts on one side of the ring. Keep in mind that beecause of the shape of the rod these cuts will refract light and appear bigger from the front when lit. Make sure you don't cut deep all you basically need to do is scratch the surface. The cuts should go almost all the way around the ring (see pics)
6. Drill small recesses in the ends of the rod that touch so the leds can sit inside. ( put 1 led in each end, 2 leds are a lot brighter than 1)
7. Attach 1 resistor to the positive side of the led (use trial and error process to determine which is positive, the led should light up when the resistor is attached to the positive and both wires are attached to power, we did this by touching both ends to a cell phone charger plug)
8. Place the leds inside the recesses you drilled in step 6 and use electrical tape to secure. Once inside touch to your power source again to make sure they are attached right.
9. 2 holes must be drilled in headlight housing in order to secure the "angel eyes" inside. Place the "angel eyes" in the housing making sure the scratched side faces the back of the housing and mark where they need to be. Drill the holes and attach the rings to the housing. We used zip ties to secure them inside. Make sure you keep the positive and negative wires seperated at all times. Drill 2 more holes in the BACK of the housing for the positive and negative wires. Slip the wires through the new holes. Attach speaker wire to the wires so you can attach to a power source (such as your car battery). (see pics)
10. Now you're ready to replace the headlight covers. You may be able to heat up the adhesive and just push back together. If you have original headlights you will probably have to use clips.
The headlight covers that originally came with Cavaliers are etched which make it somewhat difficult to see the rings. I personally think it adds a nice touch. My boyfriend and I are currently making clear covers for the lights.
CHECK BACK OFTEN TO SEE PICS OF THEM INSTALLED WITH THE CLEAR HEADLIGHT COVERS
